A Whaler painted picture of a whaling ship at sea, showing men preparing a whale aside a ship, oil on canvas, 49cm x 40cm, unsigned. Paintings by whaler's are very rare, and usually of a small format. Although naive in its style, this picture is an excellent example of its type, and notably a large and detailled example. It is likely that such a work would have been painted at sea, and therefore space would be an issue. For this reason the paintings of this type are usually smaller.
