A good example of a whalebone cane made at sea by a whaler - the shaft of this long example carved from a single piece of whalebone in a typical rope twist design, with an additional reeded section interspaced with two octagonal sections with inlaid tortoiseshell details - the handle carved from a sperm whale's tooth, of flared octagonal form and further inlaid with tortoiseshell dot work decoration
