A whaler-painted picture of a whaling ship at sea, showing men preparing a whale aside a ship, with whale jawbones lashed to the masts, oil on canvas, 49cm x 40cm, unsigned.
Paintings by whaler's are very rare, and usually of a small format, given that such works would have been painted at sea, and space would therefore have been limited. Although naive in its style, this picture is an excellent example of its type, and notably a large and detailed one.
