SOLD - rare silver vesta and striker horse head-handled cane

A rare example of a silver combination 'vesta (match case) and striker' cane, in the form of a bridled horse head - the silver handle is finely modelled overall and richly embossed - the top section of the horse head is hinged, and opens to reveal a rectangular match striker; this element is also hinged and opens upwards to further reveal a cavity for matches - in fine, original working condition, the handle is mounted directly onto an ebony hardwood shaft with a silver eyelet for a silk cord, and the shaft is finished with a polished black horn ferrule. The cane handle is hallmarked for London 1887
